Creative update
In August I released my first standalone article, on ancient civilizations. I’m planning to write more long articles as another way of helping new readers find their way here.

I am still working on Chapter 15 of Shield of the Goddess. I hope to have it finished next month.
Personal update
My wife and I went to another summer camp in Washington State for four days. I attended a workshop on writing for connection, which included journal and poetry writing. This inspired me to publish my poems here.
I played guitar and sang several times at camp. One of the songs I played was John Barleycorn, a traditional English and Scottish folk song that’s at least 400 years old. I first heard it after Steve Winwood sang it with the band Traffic on their 1970 album John Barleycorn Must Die. It sounds like a killing, but it’s not. Listen to the words very carefully to learn what it’s really about.
I learned to play it by watching this video, though I play it fingerstyle rather than by flatpicking as Mr. Winwood does, and I sing it in a lower key.
Finally I’ll mention that I’m turning 64 this month. Which brings up another favorite song of mine by another British rock band you might have heard of. Though I prefer an ale or a margarita to a bottle of wine.
