Welcome to Issue 23 of Wanderer’s Tales. In this issue is Chapter 15 of Shield of the Goddess, and a new poem, All We Do.

Creative update

In this newsletter I am releasing Chapter Fifteen of Shield of the Goddess, the adult fantasy novel I am publishing here chapter by chapter as a serial. This new chapter finds Jenan, now eighteen years old, restless to begin his first patrol as an Arrow Rider. Along the way he reconnects with an old friend and encounters the roamers, people he has only heard about in stories.

JENAN SCRAPED HIS WOODEN SPOON on the bottom of the bowl before him, scooping out the last mouthful of porridge…

This chapter introduces three new characters. I have updated People and Places with the new character names and how to pronounce them.

The people and places of Shield of the Goddess and how I pronounce them.

I have also published a new poem I wrote this summer, called All We Do.

Poetry: All We Do
All We Do is a poem I wrote in 2026, inspired by thoughts of how our lives are so much more than the work we do.

My article on ancient civilizations that I released in August is starting to show up in search engines and even AI search. I hope to write another standalone article before the end of the year.

If you enjoyed that article, check out Archaeology magazine's September-October issue which featured a section on ancient music. The online article is free and includes a link to the sound of music at iconic ancient sites.

Personal update

I continue to do freelance technical writing and editing. I also started a temporary job for the next few weeks.

This month my wife LeAnne and I went to a concert together. We saw Andy McKee, a fingerstyle guitarist from Kansas who plays instrumentals on guitars custom built for alternative tunings. After the concert I got to meet him, and bought a digital version of his song books with sheet music and guitar tablature. I am looking forward to learning to play some of his tunes. Here's a video of Andy playing Drifting, one of the songs he played at the concert. Enjoy.

A quick reminder that starting next January, Chapter Two through Chapter Nine, which I released in 2025, will need a paid subscription to access. If you haven’t already read through Chapter Nine, now is the time to catch up. Chapter One will remain free and public.
